The game will be played by the rules according to Hoyle’s Modern Encyclopedia of Card Games.  All disputes will be settled by the dealer.  All disputes with dealer will be settled by the pit boss.  The pit boss’s decision is final.  Please be considerate of others and help novice players understand the rules. Any player caught cheating will be disqualified from this and all future Lehigh related poker tournaments. Collusion will not be tolerated.

The Rules and Specifics:

Each player will start with $2000.00 worth of chips.  Chips are worth the following:

White (20 chips to start) = $5.00  (total start value: $100.00)
Red (20 chips to start) = $20.00  (total start value: $100.00)
Blue (10 chips to start) = $50.00 (total start value: $100.00)
Black (10 chips to start) = $100.00 (total start value: $100.00)

Big blinds will start at $20 with a small blind at $10.  Blinds will be doubled every 20 minutes.  Tables will be consolidated as needed.  Please be respectful of others.  Remember, this is a free tournament.  Even if you don’t win, you cannot lose so have fun and play nice.

Seating will be determined by drawing cards.  The person with the high card is dealer.  In the case that two of the same high cards are dealt, the first high card is dealer.

The two players to the left of the dealer are required to post “blind” bets before seeing their cards. The 1st is the Small Blind (SB) and the 2nd is the Big Blind (BB).  If the SB is knocked out, the button essentially goes into his/her empty seat.  If the BB is knocked out, then the BB moves on to the player who would have had it next and there isn’t a SB on this hand (SB moves into the empty seat). On the following hand, the button would wind up in the empty seat. The player who just had the BB would have SB, and the BB moves on normally to the next player. The dealer is responsible for making sure that all bets have been called before dealing each round of card(s).

The Deal:

Deal occurs in this order:

1. Dealer deals two cards (one at a time) face down to each player.
2. Betting round 1 occurs.
3. Dealer burns one card and deals 3 cards (flop) in the middle of the table face up.
4. Betting round 2 occurs.
5. Dealer burns one card and deals one card (turn/4th street) in the middle.
6. Betting round 3 occurs.
7. Dealer burns one card and deals the final card (river/5th street).
8. Betting round 4 occurs.

Mucked cards cannot be retrieved from the pile.  If a card is exposed during the deal, the deal is declared a misdeal and the hand is re-dealt. The button does not move.  If a burn card or a mucked card is exposed, the card is show to the table. The hand is not re-dealt.  If a community card is exposed prior to the action being completed, the card remains as is. It will not be burned.  If there was a bet or raise on the end, the person who made that last bet or raise shows his/her cards first. If it's checked around, the first person to act (left of dealer) shows first.  If a player is shown a better hand, he is not required to reveal his cards.

Check and raise is allowed.  The minimum bet is equal to the size of the BB.  The raise must always be at least the size of the BB.  Any player can bet all of their chips at anytime (ALL-IN).  Betting round one begins with the player to the left of the BB.  All subsequent betting rounds begin with the player to the left of the button.  When only two players are left sitting at the table, the BB is dealt to first, the button acts first before the flop, and the BB acts first after the flop.  Please do not splash the pot. Stack your bets in front of you and push them into the post after the betting round is complete.  Announce the size of your bet verbally. This will eliminate some confusion that may occur with no limit betting. Do not bet, check, call, fold, or raise out of turn.  Any player who does so will be warned and dismissed from play if inappropriate behavior continues.  Any player may be dismissed from the tournament if his / her behavior is deemed to be disruptive by the pit boss.

If two players tie for the high hand, the pot is split. If there is a split pot not equally divisible by the number of players in the hand, the “extra” chips will be awarded to the player closest to the left of the button. If two players get eliminated in the same hand, the person who started the hand with the most chips gets the higher finish and awarded the corresponding prize pool for that placement.

And most importantly, HAVE FUN!

Why use plastic cards?
Play 4 Pay

KEM Cards began production of playing cards during the first half of the 1930s. The company’s proprietary manufacturing methods gave KEM cards the enviable title of the first mass produced plastic playing card. Made of cellulose acetate, KEM cards were bendable, washable, and retained their shape long after paper based cards had withered and died. KEM’s unique polymer gave KEM cards their distinctive texture, snap, and handle. Unlike other cards, KEM cards were able to withstand the occasional spilled beer, making them an instant hit with seasoned poker players.

KEM cards gained substantial popularity during the Second World War as troops gathered together in barracks across Europe to play stud, draw, and other poker games. The cards could withstand the humidity of jungle weather, and were less effected desert sand and grit.

KEM cards set the standard for poker card design with the release of the KEM Arrow Back. Arguably the most well known of KEM’s card designs, The Arrow Back has become the icon for poker card known world round. This design was seen in the movie “Rounders” as Matt Damon battled John Malkovich in an underground cardroom in NYC.

For 70 years, Kem cards ruled the plastic playing card industry. The company experienced great success through the 1950s and 60s. After many years of success, and having produced countless decks of their patented plastic playing cards, KEM cards sold their plants and copyrighted artwork to the US Playing Card Company in 2004. This historic corporate purchase left the industry with a shortage of plastic playing cards. Finally, after almost a year of silence, the presses have started churning, and the US Playing Card Company has begun re-releasing KEM’s vintage Arrow and Paisley designs (available here).
